What a day we had. We walked over 4 miles today, traveled on the trains and trams and cabs. The boys were singing at a morning service in Canterbury at St. Paul's of Canterbury Church and then rehearsing there. I cannot express in words the feelings we get when the boys are singing. We are like a group of proud parents.
We got to wander around Canterbury for about an 1 hour. A very quaint and charming town. Then it was 97 people back on the train to the big cathedral in town . We met a man who had gone on tour from Austria in 1939 and couldn't return home after the tour because the war had broken out. He was 14 at the time. There were 20 members of the choir Vienna Mozart Boys Choir. All 20 were stranded and were found foster homes. 19 of the 20 stayed in Australia permanently.
At the end of the day Barry and I got a group of boys and escorted them to the train station so they could return to the homes they are staying in. The train system here is awesome. Deep tunnels, clean and efficient. Since we were there during rush hour everyone was buried in the evening paper.
I must tell you that traveling by train with the boys is quite an experience. As we were traveling to Canterbury, Fitz the director, quietly motioned to the boys and they broke into song entertaining the other riders on the train.
Off to dinner with a long lost friend I haven't spoken to in 30 years. Don't know when I will get to post photos as the wireless connection here is not working. But maybe tomorrow I will be able to get some up since we will be eating close to the hotel and will be spending a quiet evening at the hostel.
